The team returned March 1st from another successful mission in Honduras, where our Blue Sky group of 27volunteers worked with 5 others from Serving at the Crossroads and Summit in Honduras alongside over 20 Honduran doctors, nurses, pharmacists, techs and interpreters. Together we saw over 500 patients in three sites (Manos Amigas clinic in La Entrada, and La Reina and a local monastery/rehabilitation center) and performed 38 operations. We continued with our mission of bilateral education, working with a resident from Jefferson Abington Hospital, as well as training the Manos Amigas OR technician staff on sterile technique and sterilization procedures. We also work alongside high school volunteers, who serve as interpreters, and we coordinated medical care for patients from the field to the clinic.
The Blue Sky Surgical Board has also approved our first visiting fellowship, for one of the young medical doctors from Honduras to travel to Abington, PA, and have an educational experience alongside our US colleagues and team members.
